Exercise and hair. Is dry shampoo the answer?

Scenic shot of the beach with waves hitting the rocks.

You’ve just got back from your 7am gym class, you know it’s going to be a crazy day - the main question on your mind is do you wash your hair or use dry shampoo for the third day in a row and have more time for breakfast?

That’s an easy one right? Get your bacon on and reach for your dry shampoo and move on with the day! Easy right?

Not so fast. While dry shampoo seem like a near-miracle, there’s surprisingly a lot of confusion around those cans of miracle grease annihilating dust! The truth of the matter is, that even though it’s called a shampoo, dry shampoo doesn’t actually clean your hair.

But it can’t damage your hair right?

In the short term probably not if you are only using it a few days a week. But if you are using it for numerous days in a row in lieu of washing your hair in the long term it can unfortunately damage your beautiful locks. With powder-based dry shampoo, the powder actually mixes with your scalp’s oil and in turn becomes a paste like mixture that sticks to your scalp, this can impede new hair growth by blocking follicles.

Alcohol based dry-shampoo’s aren’t much better either. While they do dry up unwanted greasiness, in turn they also dry up the vital natural oils that keep your hair strong, silky and flexible! So you lose the good stuff out of your hair, along with the bad.

Our advice? Always give your hair a break from the dry-shampoo where you can without over-washing your hair, and always ask your friendly stylist for advice.
